SYSTER SOL

Behind the name of SYSTER SOL stands Isabel Sandblom from Stockholm. 

Syster Sol is one of Sweden's top reggae / soul artists. With the two albums "DÖMD ATT BLI BEDÖMD" ("Sentenced to be judged")in 2009 and "KICHINGA" in 2011, she has established a sound that reached out to a wide audience. 

She is a former member of the Swedish reggaeband LIVELIHOOD but since 2008 she toasts solo. 

Syster Sol is mainly, but by no means exclusively, moved within the subgenre of conscious dancehall (roots and culture), modern Jamaican dancehall rhythms combined with a socially critical and environment reflective poetry in high tempo. She often combines singing and toasting / rap in the same song, a tradition that goes back to Big Youth, one of the early 70´s, large toasters. She is one of the few female solo artists in the reggae world who write their own songs.
