Pressrelease:
An electronic homage to Kurt Tucholsky.
With Weltenbühne, German EBM pioneers Tyske Ludder present an ambitious concept album dedicated to the life and work of writer and satirist Kurt Tucholsky.
The album will be released on June 27, 2025, on the renowned label emmo.biz and will be available in several exclusive formats: as a regular CD, a limited CD box set, and two limited vinyl editions.
Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) was one of the most important publicists of the Weimar Republic. As a politically engaged journalist and occasional co-editor of the weekly magazine Die Weltbühne, he proved himself a social critic in the tradition of Heinrich Heine. He was a satirist, cabaret author, songwriter, novelist, poet, and critic, and considered himself a left-wing democrat, socialist, pacifist, and anti-militarist. Tucholsky warned early on about the threat of National Socialism and was expatriated from Germany in 1933. He took his own life in exile in Sweden in 1935.
Tyske Ludder take up Tucholsky's themes and translate them into a musical guise that oscillates between dark electro, industrial, and EBM. The lyrics are based on original quotes, poems, and essays by Tucholsky and are interwoven with modern soundscapes that reflect both the sharpness of his criticism and the melancholy of his exile.
Weltenbühne is more than an album, it is an artistic statement against indifference and for the power of the word. With this release, Tyske Ludder sets a precedent for cultural remembrance and political vigilance.
