NEW MUSIC FRIDAY ahead of us and a bunch of new songs is released today but before I´m getting into the releases this weekend, let me give you the interview I got with CHROM earlier this week, our number one on Electric Cafe Top 15 January.

A Big congratulation to you with the number one place on Electric Cafe´s Top 15, tell me more about you and your music? 

- Hi and thanks a lot for voting us to the top! That's awesome!! My name is Christian Marquis and I'm the singer and songwriter of CHROM. I started making music when I was 16 years old....that's almost 32 years ago now. I started as the leadsinger of an alternative rock band. In this time I made my first experiences with writing songs and lyrics and doing live shows. After that I was working on some synthpop songs on my own until we founded CHROM in 2007.

Tell us how "Agony" came alive, inspiration and more? 

- In the beginning there where 2 different song ideas that were really catchy but didn't work on their own. So I let them rest for a while. After a few weeks I found a way to put them together and it worked immediatly. After that the lyrics came quickly, inspired by the political and social disaster that's going on all over the world.

What is happening next for you, with new music, liveshows and events? 

- So right now I'm working on my new album that will come at the end of the year. We already have a lot of confirmed shows for 2025 we will play in Germany., some club shows and some festivals like Etropolis, WGT and Mera Luna. But we also have a lot of requests from all over Europe. So right now we're also planing a little Europe Tour (incl. Sweden of course).

What was your first instrument you bought, and who is your inspirations? 

- In 1998 I bought my first synthesizer from a 90s-Techno-DJ called African Islam. He was part of a famous Techno Duo called "Mr. X & Mr. Y". It was the Yamaha AN1x and it's still in use in my studio and on stage. Mostly I was inspired by the 80s and 90s music. That was a very creative and innovative time. I really loved the hole synthpop that came up in the 80s, the 90s techno, but also the 90s metal and crossover. My first concert I visited was Biohazard and Dog Eat Dog. Or bands like the Beastie Boys and Prodigy.....that was a great time!

When you perform and playing live, what songs do you love to perform? 

- My top 3 songs I love to play live: 

1. Losing Myself (this is one of my most emotional songs) 

2. The Start of Something New (full of energy and always burns the house) 

3. Staring At The Sun (also emotional and powerful at the same time)

Do you have any personal preferences, favourites in music, most recently or from before? 

- I like a lot of different kinds of music. I like music that is catchy, powerful and emotional. That can be synthpop, metal, techno and many more..... 

Fun fact there, Christian is a bit like me, when we talk about personal preferences, I also like metal and techno for an example. Thanks a lot for the interview Christian and good luck with upcoming releases, hopefully getting a chance to see you in Sweden.
