But first, about Beyond Obsession:
Beyond Obsession was founded in 2012 during the WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN in Leipzig and is influenced by the dance music and stylish indie pop of the eighties.
Consisting of Nils Upahl (vocals/synthesizer/guitar) and Marco Bartz (synthesizer since 2021), the band has released several albums.
Pressrelease:
"Step into a world of shimmering synths, pulsating beats, and melodies that linger long after the music fades. Our latest album, KINGS OF ASHES, is a journey through soundscapes that blend nostalgia with cutting-edge production.
Each track is a story of love, loss, and the moments in between, all wrapped in lush layers of analog warmth and digital precision. If you're a fan of Depeche Mode or Erasure, you'll find yourself right at home.
This album isn't just music; it's a soundtrack to your late-night drives, your introspective mornings, and your most electric nights.
Take a listen, let it resonate, and join us on this sonic adventure.
Just like the pressrelease says, fans of DM and Erasure going to love the album, tracks are strictly happy and the feelings of the 80s are clearly, synthpop when it is best, I also feel a bit of early Camouflage over them, when they were at their best.
The album contains 10 tracks and my favourite song starts almost immediately in "We´re Dancing With The Pain" and follows up with the single and titletrack "Kings Of Ashes". During 2023 and 2024 singles like "Can´t Tell", also another big favourite on the album and "Sweetest Caroline" have shown the way of the album, all of them special and excellent tracks and well worth a special listening. We have solid tracks like the DM inspired "Midnights" and with a lovely vocal of Sue together with Nils on "Forevermore", to wrap it up, we have a must have album for you, the synthpop lover.
"Kings Of Ashes" gets 9 of 10 Espressos.
