Inspired by Fritz Lang’s dystopian masterpiece, “Metropolis” depicts a futuristic city divided in two: on the surface, the ruling elite; in the slums, workers enslaved by machines. Moved by their plight, Freder, the son of the local tyrant, joins the cause of Maria, a priestess preaching reconciliation through the heart. 

To crush this uprising, the mad scientist Rotwang transfers Maria’s features into an android. This hybrid being a symbol of the machine’s control over humanity will become a tool for manipulating the masses before being destroyed by the fury of the people.
